In Spite of Everything: A 90s fusion of award-winning slam poetry, rapid fire comedy, a cappella hip hop and punk rock theatrics performed by this spoken word trio from Oakland, CA. This highly interactive night of storytelling weaves together the trio’s autobiographical journeys through fatherhood, gang violence, immigration, menial employment, imperialism, addiction, murder and, finally, their evolution into high school poetry teachers. Reaching far beyond the lives that almost killed them, they prove that salvation is not merely for the pious but also for the poet.
